Info For Arrestees

Miami Activist Defense is working to provide long-term legal support for those who participated in the Miami anti-FTAA demonstrations. We are committed to fighting these cases through to the end, but you need to take responsibility for your own defense. Please continue to check this site for the latest information on how you can fight these injustices.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ARRESTEES!
If you are not planning on making your next court appearance, the Public Defender's office (and MAD) is strongly suggesting that you fill out the following waiver: PDF

Fill this out ASAP (make sure to SIGN IT), and fax immediately to Carol Ferrero in the PD's office at (305) 545-****. Most copy shops, Kinkos, and public libraries have faxes you can use for a small cost. Spread the word about this to your friends!

If for some reason it is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE for you to fax the form, send an email to cferrero [at] pdmiami.com stating "I wish to waive my presence at any and all pretrial conferences." Then snail mail the hard copy IMMEDIATELY to Carol Ferrero, Office of the Public Defender, 1500 N.W. 12th Avenue, Suite 900, Miami, Florida, 33136.

If you have lost all your paperwork & don't know your case number don't fret. Just PRINT your name clearly and sign it. Those are the most important things. Your PD can fill in your judge & case number.

Please do this now. We mean it. Now. Please.

DID YOU GET DECERTIFIED AND LOSE YOUR PUBLIC DEFENDER?
If the courts unjustly took away your Public Defender, there may be a way to get him/her back. One of the things you can do to fight this ruling is to file a form with the courts claiming low income status. Download the Indigency Form if you qualify, fill it out, then call the MAD Gainseville office at (352) 375-**** for information on how to get it filed with the courts.

WE HAVE ATTORNEYS THAT WILL TAKE YOUR CASE AT NO COST TO YOU
If the courts unjustly took If you do not think you qualify for low-income status, MAD has been busy finding private attorneys that will take your case pro bono--for free! If you are interested in getting hooked up with one of these attorneys, call Steckley in the MAD Gainesville office at (352) 375-****.

ARE YOU ON THE DEFENDANTS LISTSERV?
A listserv has been set up to facilitate court solidarity and discussion regarding legal and political action you can take to fight your cases!
If you're not on it, send us your email address (better yet, send us an outtake form) to legal [a] stopftaa.org and we'll sign you up right away!
