Legal Stats

As of November 1, 2004:

ARRESTS
No. of reported arrests: 283
No. of people formally charged: 231

The discrepancy between arrests reported to Miami Activist Defense (MAD) and the number of those that were formally charged is likely due, at least in part, to people being arrested and then released without being charged.

Out of 231 people formally charged, 203 were charged with misdemeanors and 28 were charged with felonies.

MISDEMEANORS
Out of 203 people with "official" misdemeanor charges:
No. of cases dismissed or withdrawn by prosecution: 112
No. of pleas taken (resulting in no criminal charge): 84
No. of convictions: 0
No. of remaining cases: 7

FELONIES
Out of 28 people originally charged with felonies:
No. of cases dismissed or withdrawn by prosecution: 11
No. of cases reduced to misdemeanors: 12
No. of pleas taken (resulting in no criminal charges): 5
No. of convictions: 0
No. of remaining cases: 0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
MAD has received several hundred police misconduct reports as a result of the police violence and rights violations that occurred before, during and after the FTAA ministerial.
