Who We Are
|
|
The Miami Activist Defense (MAD) is composed of activists and National Lawyers Guild (NLG) law students, legal workers, attorneys,
and law collective members (MSLC, UATLC) from around the country who
are committed to providing legal support to activists during the
protests against the FTAA that are to take place in south Florida from
November 16th - 23rd. We share a common commitment to the struggle
against corporate global capitalism, and all forms of injustice.
MAD is committed to providing legal trainings for activists,
coordinating legal observers, staffing a phone bank during the actions,
keeping track of arrests, if any, helping facilitate jail and court
solidarity, and working with the activists and attorneys in other
capacities as needed. We will also have volunteers in meetings and on
the streets to answer questions and disseminate KYR cards and the legal
hotline number.
The NLG lawyers in MAD are working with the Miami Public Defenders and
the Miami ACLU and will do their best to provide legal support in the
courtroom when necessary. They will also work on constitutional rights
issues, including those related to: harassment and stops and searches by
the police, police misconduct during the actions, and protection of
meeting spaces from police raids. |
