About legal support
|
|
- We have a phone line: this may change soon. For now the office number still is (305) 400-****. The
legal support team is made up lawyers, legal workers, and activists
dedicated to protecting the right to dissent. At this stage we have
limited resources for jail support and post-arrest followup. If you risk
arrest (which is everyone) please plan on having an affinity group legal support person.
- The issue of bail/ bonding is a serious one. Misdemeanor
arrests in Miami can mandate bail up to $2500. This means that everyone
should have bail money and affinity groups should pool resources to
ensure that arrested members are sprung. The Miami Public Defenders
office is awesome and they are working closely with the legal support
team. They will be making most or all court appearances. **PDs are nice
and hardworking, but they are not always on the same page politically or
tactically as demonstrators. ** We are working to get volunteer
criminal defense attorneys who have worked with political folks.
- Come to our trainings
at the Welcome center so as to coordinate collective legal strategy. If
you want to help out, request training for groups, or if you are
talking with your group about legal strategy (i.e. jail solidarity,
court solidarity, risk levels, etc.) and need more info, email us at
