Info about the courts and the cops

This information is preliminary and subject to change

  • They have emptied out around 1000 beds in a men's state prison in downtown miami. This could mean that protesters will be brought here or that general population prisoners in county jails will be brought to the state jail and protesters will be held in county.
  • People charged with felonies will be brought to one location, people charged with misdemeanors to another.
  • The courts are planning to do video arraignments from the jail (i.e. people will not be transferred from the jails to the courts for their first appearance/arraignment). This means people may have very limited access to lawyers and won't be able to see your supporters while being arraigned.
  • Ordinance - Miami's draconian anti-demonstrator ordinance was passed on 11/13/03.
  • The only thing we know for sure is that we can't trust what the cops tell us. Here is a link to a timeline of what went down in Philly under Timony (now Miami's Police Chief)
